Are online relationships the same as offline ones?

A simple and quick answer to this is ....... Well it depends who your talking to.

The idea that if its someone you know well, family or close friends then your relationship will be then same!!!
However MSN or chatrooms allow people have different relationships according to what side of your personallity you want to present to the people your talking to.

  1. Even if you are talking to someone you know well online, do you not find it less informal and shorter than if it was on the phone?

  2. Yeah but i think that's mainly down to lazyness. People will write in text language as a means of getting what they want to say out quicker simply because it takes longer to write than say.

  3. I think the way some messages are indeed shorter and more informal, even to somebody you know, i mostly down to the "mode of address" on services like these. What I'm trying to say is that it may just be a case of speaking differently in different situations. So the way you speak to each other on a website is different from how you talk in, say, the living room. But then, the way you talk in a living room is different from how you would talk to each other in, say, a seminar. I think the difference in environment is the reason for the different way of speaking to eachother, in a similar way as it chamnges in different real-life environments. Hope I am making sense here at all!
